The winter bite is reaching its peak at Sailfish Marina. A series of cold fronts has moved through South Florida, bringing air temperatures into the 50s and 60s. These conditions have ignited the offshore fishery, particularly for those looking to engage with our premier winter species. Offshore: The Sailfish Migration is Here The recent North-Northwest winds have provided the ideal setup for sailfishing. We are seeing high activity along the ledge between 120 and 200 feet of water, often just 20 minutes from the Palm Beach Inlet. Current Tactics: Kite fishing with live goggle eyes has been our most productive method. The Bite: We have been seeing consistent releases, with some days offering multiple double-headers as schools of sails move south through the Gulf Stream. Meat In The Box: Wahoo and Blackfin Tuna The "meat" fishing remains strong, especially on the troll. The recent moon phases have brought a steady Wahoo bite for those pulling planers with bonita strips. Blackfin Tuna: Productive action continues further out at "The Hill." While many are catching schoolie-sized fish on the troll, our live bait setups are targeting the larger "jumbos" that are hanging in the 200 to 300-foot range. Mahi-Mahi: We are encountering nice "gaffer" sized Mahi-Mahi while searching for billfish, particularly when finding clean water edges and weed lines pushed in by the recent fronts. Reef and Bottom Fishing When the wind allows, the bottom fishing has been excellent. Snapper: We are finding a healthy mix of Yellowtail and Mutton Snapper on the local reefs. Giants: For those seeking a heavy-duty battle, the Goliath Grouper are active around the deeper wrecks. We are also seeing a strong presence of Hammerhead and Bull Sharks for guests interested in big-game tug-of-wars.
